Ruby Rae
Bio: Ruby Rae
Ruby Rae is an independent songwriter & singer who collaborates with a talented combination of musicians including Lawson White (Good Child Music, So Percussion), Colin Dempsey (Supersmall), Olivia Mancini (Olivia & The Mates), Ed Coleman (Dead Go West), Tyler Beckwith (We Are The Woods), and Ed Donohue (Donny Hue & The Colors).
Ruby Rae writes and performs music that defies easy categorization: a catalogue of influences would include Wanda Jackson, Mazzy Star, and Lori McKenna. Both vibrant and dark, simultaneously catchy and psychological, the sound is cinematic and complex, drawing on diverse sources that include folklore, mythology, horror films, and autobiography. The albums are conceptual and thematic; her full-length 2012 release “Night of the Psychopomp” was an otherworldly exploration that drew upon the myth of the spirit guide and a personal journey to understand the grief process.
Ruby Rae's latest project was inspired during her residency at the Akumal International Art Residency in Mexico (2015). The songs create a journey inspired by personal transformation, Mayan legends, tropical + desert landscapes, hiraeth and nostalgia, and film noir. Recorded at Mavericks studio in NYC by Bob Mallory, produced by Matthew Agoglia, and mastered by Alex DeTurk, the production of the album is radiant and paired with a brilliant illustration by talented artist Katherine Hardy. "The Uncanny" was released on July 8th, 2016, and is available via CD Baby, Apple Music, Tidal, Spotify, Bandcamp and on vinyl through the Shop.
Ruby Rae recently finished work on songs for a new full length album titled "True Crime" released in collaboration with producer Lawson White September 9, 2022! The companion acoustic demo EP "Blue Prints" was released on June 16 2023. She is working on writing new songs & top secret True Crime remixes.
